Comparison
Sirca PU vs Asian Paints Woodtech PU — which wood finish for Delhi furniture?
Sirca is the trade specification when finish has to be flawless. Woodtech does the daily job at a friendlier price. The real-world decision lens.
For wood finishing in Delhi NCR, two PU (polyurethane) systems dominate every serious carpenter's bag: Sirca PU (the Italian premium) and Asian Paints Woodtech PU (the Indian standard). Both belong in stock. Picking between them depends on what kind of wood, what kind of finish, and what kind of budget you're working with.
We stock both at our Sector 8 Rohini store, and our regulars include furniture makers, modular kitchen installers, and interior contractors from across NW Delhi. Here's how they actually use these two systems.
The technical difference
Sirca PU is a high-build, two-component polyurethane developed by Sirca SpA in Italy and manufactured under licence in India. It cures harder, fills deeper grain, and gives a denser, glassier surface. The transparency and depth in a properly applied Sirca PU finish is genuinely different from anything in the Indian market.
Asian Paints Woodtech PU is part of the broader Woodtech system — a reliable, modular two-component PU built for Indian conditions. It applies easily, dries predictably, and gives a clean professional finish that satisfies the vast majority of furniture and joinery work.
Where Sirca pulls ahead
- Premium furniture: tabletops, executive desks, hotel-grade joinery. Sirca's depth and clarity earn their keep here.
- Open-grain woods: teak, oak, walnut where the grain is part of the design. Sirca fills it better.
- Show pieces: reception desks, designer kitchens, statement furniture. The finish carries the price.
- Restoration work: antique and period furniture refurbishment.
Where Woodtech wins
- Volume work: apartment kitchens, builder-grade joinery, in-house furniture. Woodtech does an honest job at a friendlier price.
- Daily-driver projects: doors, partitions, standard wardrobes.
- Contractors with tight margins: Woodtech delivers 80% of the perceived finish at 50–60% of the cost.
- Applications where ease and forgiveness matter: Woodtech tolerates application variation better than Sirca.
Pricing
Approximate price band in Delhi as of 2026, per litre (PU is sold per kg or litre):
- Asian Paints Woodtech PU: ₹650–₹950 per litre
- Sirca PU: ₹1,300–₹2,000 per litre
For a single executive desk, the cost difference is small — a few hundred rupees on materials. For a whole-house joinery job, Sirca will add ₹15,000–₹30,000 versus Woodtech. Carpenters costing a job factor this in.
The matched system matters
PU is one layer in a chain: sanding sealer → stainer (optional) → PU topcoat. Always use matched products within the same brand for the full chain. Sirca-on-Sirca and Woodtech-on-Woodtech outperform any cross-brand combination.
We stock the full wood-finish system for both — sealers, melamyne (the alternative to PU for budget jobs), wood stainers, and matched thinners.
What we recommend
Sirca PU is right when: the piece will be evaluated by its finish, the wood is premium, the budget can absorb the additional cost. Specify Sirca for tabletops, executive joinery, designer furniture, restoration.
Woodtech PU is right when: the project is volume work, the wood is mid-grade, the contractor's margin matters. Specify Woodtech for kitchens, doors, wardrobes, daily furniture.
Never use: a cheap unbranded PU or thinner. The savings get eaten by failed finishes and rework.
